3 Essential Pieces Of Rain Gear For Working Outside

Not all jobs allow you to be inside when it is wet outside. If you have a job that requires you to be outside even when it is wet, you need to make sure you have the right rain gear for work to protect you in the wet weather.

Essential Rain Gear #1: Rain Boots

When it comes to staying dry, always start with your feet. Once your feet are cold and wet, it can be difficult to focus on anything else other than the discomfort your feet are in.

Your feet also support your entire body, and you don't want to give them a chance to get into bad shape. You don't want your feet to develop trench foot, or develop a fungus. That is why the first piece of essential rain gear for working outside that you need is rain boots.

When choosing rain boots, go for boots that are taller, and extend past your ankle up to your lower calf. When it is raining outside, the water tends to get everywhere, and you never know how deep that innocent-looking puddle really is. Taller boots will do a more effective job of keeping your feet dry.

Pay attention to the material the boots are made from as well. You can go for some basic rubber rain boots, or you can go with boots made from water-resistant materials such as Gore-Tex.

Pay attention to the traction on the rain boots you purchase as well. If you are hiking around on various terrain, you are going to want to purchase rain boots that have thick traction, as you would find on the bottom of a pair of hiking shoes. Stay away from simple rain boots with flat traction, as that could cause you to slip and fall.

Essential Rain Gear #2: Rain Jacket

Next, you need a really good rain jacket. You want a jacket that is breathable so you don't get all sticky and sweaty inside of your jacket as you are hiking around. Breathable rain jackets are made of fabric that is specifically formulated to wick sweat away from the body. In addition to breathable fabric, look for a rain jacket that also has built-in ventilation, such special panels around the sides or armpits, that allow in air.

You also want a rain jacket that is thick enough to actually keep you dry when it is raining. You want a jacket that is waterproof, not water-resistant. These two similar-sounding terms actually have different meanings. A water-resistant jacket is made to keep you dry in light wet conditions, whereas a waterproof jacket is made to keep you dry in a downpour.

Depending on what tasks you are doing outside, you want a rain jacket that has enough pockets for all the gear you need to carry with you.

Look for a jacket that also has a hat that you can flip up. Carrying an umbrella when working outside is not always realistic, so having a rain jacket with a hood is essential.

Essential Rain Gear #3: Rain Pants

If you are working outside for hours at a time, you are going to want a pair of rain pants. Rainwater likes to get all over the place, and it will splash all over your pants, especially if you spend a considerable amount of time outside. Get a pair of rain pants that are designed to keep you both dry and warm at the same time. Just like with the rain jacket, you want to purchase rain pants that are waterproof, not water-resistant.

When it comes to working outside, you need rain gear that is going to keep you dry and warm at the same time. You need a sturdy pair of rain boots, a jacket with a hood, and a nice pair of rain pants.
